SGPA to CGPA (weighted by credits)
Enter each semester's SGPA and its total credits. If every semester has the same credits, type the same number in each row.
Read my marksheet (PDF)
Upload a text-based PDF transcript. We read the credits and grades, work out each semester's SGPA, and fill the table above. The file is read in memory and is not saved. Scans and photos will not work. Always compare with your own document.
Grade points assumed: A+ = 10, A = 9, B+ = 8, B = 7, C = 6, D = 5, E = 4, F = 0. This is a common 10-point scheme. If your university uses different points, the "calculated" SGPA will not match the one printed on your document, and we will show that.
Use your own multiplier
If your university gives a different rule, such as percentage = CGPA x 9.25, type the multiplier. The first calculator will use it.
The rules on this page
- CBSE (CGPA x 9.5): The multiplier CBSE has used for Class 10 and 12 grade points. Boards and colleges may still ask for their own rule.
- Simple rule (CGPA x 10): Many colleges and some universities simply multiply by 10. Check yours before using it on a form.
- (CGPA - 0.75) x 10: A rule used for some engineering universities, such as VTU. Confirm it for your batch.
We list a rule here only when it is in common use, and we say so when we have not checked the university's own notification. If you find one that is wrong, tell us on the contact page.
How the conversion works
Every rule above has the form percentage = a × CGPA + b. With the CBSE rule, a = 9.5 and b = 0, so a CGPA of 8.2 gives 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%. With the (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 rule, the same 8.2 gives (8.2 − 0.75) × 10 = 74.5%. The same CGPA can give different percentages, which is why the rule matters.
To go back, the calculator reverses the rule: CGPA = (percentage − b) ÷ a.
SGPA to CGPA is a weighted average: add up (SGPA × credits) for every semester and divide by the total credits. For example, 8.0 over 24 credits and 9.0 over 26 credits gives (8.0 × 24 + 9.0 × 26) ÷ 50 = 8.52.
Questions students ask
Is there one official CGPA to percentage formula in India?
No. The Indian CBSE board uses a multiplier of 9.5 for its own results, while each university or college decides its own rule. Some multiply by 10, some use (CGPA - 0.75) x 10, and some publish a table. The rule that counts is the one in your university's notification.
Which formula should I use on a job application?
Use the one your university or college gives in its marksheet notes or official notification. If it gives none, many recruiters accept the CGPA itself, so write both, for example: CGPA 8.2/10 (approx. 77.9% using the CBSE rule).
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA?
Multiply each semester's SGPA by that semester's credits, add the results, and divide by the total credits. That is what the third calculator on this page does. Do not just average the SGPAs unless all semesters have the same credits.
Why does my university's percentage differ from this calculator?
Because the rule is different. Pick the matching rule or enter your own multiplier. If your university uses a grade table instead of a formula, follow the table.
Are my numbers saved or sent anywhere?
No. The calculations happen in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored or tracked.
